I’m going to show you how to make my SO EASY crock pot recipe for pulled pork.
**Easy peasy lemon squeezy**
Start with a 4-5 lb. pork shoulder. AKA pork butt. AKA Boston butt. AKA huge slab of boneless pork meat that comes from the top of the animal directly north of where you find the pork-chops. *whew* That was a mouthful.
Rinse and pat dry.
You’ll need one can of cola and two tablespoons of vinegar for the crock pot.
Soda like Coca-Cola and Pepsi contains an acid that tenderizes meat. Don’t use diet soda. Only regular please! 🙂
Pour the cola and vinegar into your crock pot.
Now mix up the dry rub.
OR **Drum roll please** you can use my Spicy Smoky Sweet BBQ Rub . 😀 😀
Rub it in all sides of the pork shoulder, making sure you really “rub it in.”
Carefully place it into the crock pot not to lose a bunch of the rub to the countertop.
Now cover it and simmer on low for 6-8 hours.
After 4 hours… things are getting juicy!

After 8 hours. It’s so tender I just looked at it and it fell into pieces like this….
Remove any large pieces of fat and shred the pork with two forks.
Serve on a toasted sesame bun with a layer of mayo and a drizzle of Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce.
We had this with homemade pickles, side salad and corn on the cob.
Vanilla pudding with peach compote, Nilla wafers, and homemade whip for dessert!!
We also had it for lunch the next day. Yummmmmmmmm. Give this one a try before summer ends! xoxo
Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
- 4-5 lb. Pork Shoulder
- 1 can Cola (NOT DIET!)
- 2 tablespoons Vinegar
- 5-6 tablespoons Spicy Smoky Sweet BBQ Rub (any BBQ rub will do)
- 2 tablespoons Brown Sugar
- 2 tablespoons Paprika
- 1 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 teaspoon Garlic Salt
- 1/2 teaspoon Cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon Kosher Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon Black Pepper
Fill the slow cooker with 1 can cola and 2 tablespoons of vinegar.
Whisk together the dry rub ingredients in a medium size bowl.
Pour dry rub all over the pork shoulder and rub it into all sides of the meat as best as you can. Carefully place the pork in the slow cooker. Cook on low for 6-8 hours. When you’re ready to serve it, remove any large pieces of fat and shred the meat. Serve alone or on sesame buns, etc. Enjoy!
