“My Disney Princess name is Taco Belle…”
What a cheesy internet quote! But it’s still cute. I mean, I do enjoy tacos.. .. and of course my daughter Belle… and often times Taco Bell!… this quote is actually very fitting for me!
I use this copy-cat recipe to replace the pre-made seasoning packets you can buy at the grocery store – you know the type… the little paper sleeves that cost a couple of bucks. I like having bulk seasoning in my cupboard, no exception to the taco variety! I’ve tweaked this one a few times and now I think it’s just right. 🙂
If you’re looking for a quick homemade gift idea, look no further. This makes a great gift for Christmas gift baskets, father’s day bundles, etc.
It’s super easy to make and packs a serious punch of flavor. You won’t be disappointed. Did I mention how cheap it is to make? 🙂 Enjoy xoxo
Homemade Taco Seasoning (Large Batch)
- 4 Tablespoons Chili Powder
- 2 Tablespoons Cumin
- 5 Teaspoons Kosher Salt
- 2 Teaspoons Black Pepper
- 2 Teaspoons Corn Starch
- 2 Teaspoons Garlic Powder
- 2 Teaspoons Paprika
- 1 Teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Oregano
- 1 Teaspoon Cayenne Pepper
- 1 Teaspoon Cocoa Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Sugar
In a medium size bowl, whisk together all ingredients. Store in an airtight container. Use two tablespoons of taco seasoning per pound of meat.
Makes 3/4 cup = 12 tablespoons = 6 servings (when using 1 lb. of meat)
Example recipe for seasoning:
Ground beef for tacos: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, brown 1 pound of ground beef and then drain the fat. Next add two tablespoons of homemade taco seasoning and 1/2 cup of hot water. Bring to a boil, reduce heat to low and simmer for 5 minutes. Use as a filling for tacos, burritos, etc.
Very clever. I may make some of this myself. I sort of make it on the fly each time, but it sure would be nice to have a big jar of it on hand.

It’s really convenient having it on hand, and it tastes better than store bought. Plus, no chemicals! 🙂
