Thankfully Spring is right around the corner because I have Spring fever, BAD! I saw a half quart of strawberries at the grocery store and all I could think of was sugared strawberries, springtime, and sunshine. So.. you know… I bought them. 🙂
“….And they’ll be sowing the summer barley in the lower fields… and eating the first of the strawberries with cream. Do you remember the taste of strawberries?”
-Sam Gamgee (J R R Tolkien)
Sugared strawberries are a delicious topping for french toast, strawberry shortcake, cheesecake, brownies… I mean you name it and it’ll probably work!
When you mix diced strawberries with granulated sugar, add a splash of lemon juice and a pinch of salt, you end up with a delicious treat.
And when strawberries marinate in sugar they create their own syrup so, NO WATER NEEDED! 🙂

Sugared Strawberries 🍓
- 16 ounces Strawberries
- 1/2 cup Granulated Sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon Lemon Juice
- Pinch of Salt
Cut strawberries into 1/2″ pieces. In a medium bowl mix strawberries with granulated sugar, lemon juice and salt. Cover with saran wrap and refrigerate for at least an hour. Before serving, stir again. They make their own syrup so no water needed. Serves 8-10
The recipe can be scaled down to serve 4: Use 1/4 cup sugar to 8 oz. strawberries.
Sometimes the simplest recipes are the best! Those berries look delicious.
